I went back to Bangalore again. Yes, again! Its a place I treasure, though I spent only 2 years there. Traffic be damned, its beautiful, its the place I grew up in. And continue to grow up in. Everytime I go back I realise something new about myself, I feel liberated, free to think as I am to move. I go back, when I am very happy or very sad. This time it was mixed feelings, going to start another year with lessons learnt, chapters forgotten.
I went back to college, me and coupla friends, sat on the stairs, had a cup of strong coffee, served by the erstwhile Simon who was odd job man at hostel.. and thinking to ourselves..what's changed? Same stairs, Same rain, Same friends, wondering what we we are gonna do next, waiting for rain to stop, waiting for abhi to come. Its beautiful, could life be this peaceful always? We cribbed of all that, but thats what we laugh most at ..and so here's to life. Why nostalgic? bdays coming up idiot!! Nostalgia comes into life, finds out more and goes away packed with memories. and thats why tis nosey!! There! I've explained the subject line.
This blog used to be views on various things. But in all these years, I find it going a whole new direction. Something which I have loved all the time. It's BOOKS!! So, presenting a whole new saga, of books and a little about them, whatever I can find, write, visualise and imagine...

Of the missing simplicity...
Climbing trees in the garden, bracing myself to climb a branch higher every month, feeling tall and feeling strong. The bruises which turned colour, the rain water flooding my room, when I could make paper boats or just splash around. Dirty feet, smelly shoes. Emptying the basket of vegetables, sitting in it, waiting to be swung..and pretend that was real.
Sititng with my grandfather while he prayed, imitating everything he did, repeating loudly and running out at the mention of breakfast. Picking up the heavy black telephone recevier, wondering if my face would ever be big enough to touch both the mouth piece and the ear piece at the same time..
First time I realised I could t ell time, was at 2 pm. My mother has never seen me that excited since. Playing cricket with 10 boys on a green field and going back home to play house house with 2 girls. My first swing was rope tied to the ceiling.. Pooris on a Sunday morning. Showing off rakhis on rakhi day, boy or girl, buying the biggest, ugliest, flashiest rakhi and being ever so proud.
Sitting with a brown teddy bear teaching it about crows, chasing cats away from the kitchen, running miles from dogs..
I could keep on but you would only get bored... but a random thought every now and then didn't hurt no one. :-)

Tech update
I obviously have nothing new to write about though much has happened over the past few months. Its been crazy and confusing, and absolutely no lessons learnt whatsoever. While my cell phone has been to the repairs twice already, I must say am not impressed with this updated verison of my handset. My cheap plastic blue phone was much better, I might add I dropped this one on concrete, but its a Nokia, it should work. Anyways, so now I can't increase the volume so the next time you guys call, just speak up, alright? And am not deaf, its my concrete injured phone.
My ipod's the same and am so boring that I haven't updated any of the music, but surprisingly I was happy to hear some new tunes on it, Its like magic, of course I realised only after that its because I was not clicking on the shuffle option. I dunno how that works, I didn't make the damn piece.
My recent acquisitions are a brand new TV set and a DVD player. Of course, am still trying to save, so no DVDs have been purchased as such, but technically I am the proud owner of the two. Hindrances like going out of town, reading a good book, relatives visiting and too tired to care and too lazy to fix the adapter are all part of the deal. This is the only reason I have not switched them on since April 25 2006. How do I remember? Heck, I don't know.
My digicam is spoilt, so I am too lazy to get it fixed. Of course, it would mean a 2 minute trip to Hyderabad Central, a stone's throw, or maybe well, a firecracker away. Not to mention I've spent a quarter of my shopping life in it, but No! why would I ever wanna get it fixed? So I went archaic and carried the old film one. Remember, those dabba looking cameras in which you have to load a film and keep clicking and you can't see how it is after, and have to get them developed to see them. Quite a hit about 3-4 years ago. Those ones. I didnt use it though, because I decided to go rather hitech and use a handycam.
Inetrestingly, I shot half of Singapore and my room, with a refrigerator and a microwave on it and all the trees and all that. A visual travelogue if you may.. and lo and behold I turn it on in the morning to watch a recording of Rahul Dravid on Ten Sports. Well... Let me not go into how that happened, but it did not happen by my hands!!
Is this enough? I miss the good old days.. Nostalgia creeps back. 'If only I could turn back time...'

Knick Knacks from S'pore
Well.. see.. It's like this. The Indian economy is booming, according to a Malaysian cab driver in Singapore. Its India Everywhere at the World Economic Forum at Davos this year. And really it is India Everywhere in Singapore as well.
So then, why is it not India in the batrooms as well.. Am sorry to sound well appallingly gross, to some at least, but the bathrooms in some of these international hotels could do with a bucket or two. Really!

Fooootball
I am not here to crib or complain about football, despite my father, extended family, friends, a dogs and cats watching all the time. And mind you, he's gonna be reading this, he is also not too happy that I have 'ruined his reputation' about TV watching in one fo my earlier blogs. However, an attempt to watch three different games, namely, tennis, cricket and football was a little much. And here I am thanking the heavens that F1 was not on that day, or well!!
Have I cribbed , yet? :-) (-: Attempting to watch. Can't beat 'em, join 'em!!

Irregularities...
It's been a month since I have opened my blog and decided to type in a word. At this rate, I will soon forget not just my password but also my username. Well, but no use going on about being very irregular, though I do have an excuse...and that magical excuse is Goa. Of the month that I have mention, 7 days of it was spent away from Hyderabad, 3 In Bangalore and 4 in Goa. The idea of beign away from everything in a place, where no one really cares did wonders for me and especially for my appetite. Three cheers for the Goan fish curry.
The Goan sunset is a pleasure to watch. and this time I had the opportunity of seeing it in all its glory as I spent 7 hours at the beach just staring at the sky. Did I mention a dolphin I spotted ? For free.. An added pleasure. Now I am back rested, yet restless to go back. Here's to Goa. :-)

Cell and I
I knew it! I just knew that getting a new phone would do me no good. I believe that it is indeed a good buy and am flashing it around. But, sadly for me, this means responsibility. While the earlier phone could be lost, dropped and even thrown across the room in anger, this one allows me to show no other expression of emotion.
So the next time I am angry, I could perhaps type in an angry smiley... Hmm..
Those days of securtiy of carrying a cheap phone..I miss them, its been a day, by the way.
My dad recommends I can give this to him if I crib anymore, so I'll just enjoy my buy..
Here's praying I don't lose it... by that I mean phone and not temper.

On Rusty...
I did it!! I saw him!! Ruskin Bond himself!! He created mass hysteria...only in me, of course. I saw him from a distance...and there he was all pink and round. And as funny as ever. I was a little annoyed that it was for children, I felt we have as much right to him as kids. Lucky buggers!! At 24, even with a Mickey Mouse t-shirt I have no scope of passing off for a 10 year old.
Anyways, I am still to get over my excitement of seeing him and my disapoointment at not being able to say hello. But still...My week was made!! Here's to India's best author.

Old age and me?
Am I allowed to feel old? Well, not much you can do about it, because I do. Are people working sooner, or have I started out late? It's a tough call, because I am so used to being the youngest since my school days, for me, this is a whole new world. Its not a huge issue, but well I can't help thinking about it.
Beat it, cricket players are younger than me. I am way too used to it being the other way round. From oh god , he's too old, its not oh my he's too young. :-)
With my peer group marrying away like there's no tomorrow, and then making babies at the same rate, I have not too many places to run for cover from old age. If my bones ain't creaking, well, my mind definitely is. I think it might even be cracked. Why am I boring you with this? Blame it on old age; senility; there was another word, I've forgotten. ;-)
Until next time...

darling idiot box
Really it is. It is, I'm convinced. I watched tv all day yesterday from 10 am to 11.30 pm. With only a short nap in between. More than 12 hours of just mindless, useless television. The delight... Since I am the loser in all TV watching matches, either with my dad or my grandmother, I am very possessive about the remote control. Luckily, my dad took an outing gifting me a day with the TV.
Best b'day gift this year, albeit very delayed. Watched Hum Tum, for 5 mins of Abhishek Bachchan. Since his Refugee days, he would come on screen, show sparks of brilliance for 5 minutes and then completely goof up. Always thought he'd do it in the end. and now he has what.. 3 hits in a row. And he goofs up for only 5 mins. hmm...

Harry Potter
Are you bored with this topic? Oh well... never mind. I am just copy pasting what I wrote to a friend today on the subject as it seemed to have a point.
I am re-reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince because, well i felt that the first reading was done with so much eagerness and in such a hurry, that i might have missed subtle points, which made me dislike the book. I have read, re-read and loved all the earlier volumes, so how can i dislike this one so much? Well, we'll find out when i am done. As part of the Harry Potter fever i also bought all the three VCDs of the movies.
I had felt that the directors did not do justice to the book, when i saw them. Of course, this is besides the fact that no movie can match its counterpart in the book. However, now as I watch them again, I must apologise to Mr Chris Columbus, but I think the only thing he did wrong with this one is not do justice to my imagination of the books. I was a shade grander there, several shades, in fact.
But the movie, which has no foundation in my imagination does well for itself. Thought I wish Lupin did not look so funny with his chaplinesque moustache.
So cheers to Harry, Ron and Hermione...and Fluffy and Buckbeak(Witherwings?) and Norbert and Grawp. :-)

iPods
Ahem...
Umm...
This blog post is informative but it might not be of any interest to you...worse still you mayplug in your iPod. I've gotten a brand new iPod..the iPod Shuffle. Since i've gotten it last week, i've been asked questions about how much space there is on it..and looks of sympathy have been exchanged. Why, you ask? I have only about 512 MB of space on it. "That's it? only 500..thats nothing yaar." I've been told.
In defence, it came free, its tiny, that mean not only does it fit in my jeans pocket, it also fits into the tiny pocket in the pocket.. can i call that a socket? mini pocket perhaps!
anyways, i can load up to 120 songs, to my delight i managed 150 songs, with a good varitey of music, which i have carefully selected.
I think this is more than sufficient, because unless i had absolutely nothing do, would i sit and listen to all the songs at one go... so i'd say for me, this is more than enough...
now happy listening to me and my ipod shuffle
did i mention the iPod mini is bigger than mine...? why's it the mini then?

why blog?
As you can see I am still figuring this one out. I picked the green template because that's my favourite colour. And I am writing because well, that's pretty much my only talent.
By the way, do tummy aches happen because the tummy is upset with you( I have heard people say that, but tummy doesn't have mind of its own, right?) Do you call it an upset stomach or a stomach upset? or Both? Well, I have them all, and if it gets any worse I'll be forced to think the tummy has a mind of its own is indeed upset with me. hmm...

blogger? me?
How is it for a person who writes everyday, to have writing as a hobby? I mean, what if your job and hobby, both involve writing? Some people would think that's ideal, you do what you like...but when what you do for fun, becomes a routine job, what then?
I guess I will figure this out as I go along. If I can write for work and away from work? Should I write about work? Well, to all writers, then, work or no-work, cheers and lead on...
