‘Kaliyug : The Secret Plot’ by BS Sarwagna Kumar is a good book, with certain sparks of brilliance
and parts of boredom too. While I was impressed with the author for the research,
but his enthusiasm to include the whole thing was slightly tedious.
By the time, the plot
begins about Kaliyug, one has to deal with the beginning of time, towards the
Dwapara Yuga. Most of us have already read the earliest parts and then about the
Ramayana and Mahabharata over and over again, so will not repeat it.
But, at the same time,
when it comes down to Kaliyug, is when it loses the plot. The actual story
begins at Kaliyug, which took quite some time to begin, as per the story. Sam
and Sami are two insipid characters, who are repeatedly given birth to and
then die, at the end of their respective times. The reasons were varied, but their
history got a little dreary.
Not because of ‘progress’
of the world, which could have been better described, but due to the lack of a gripping
initial plot. By the time, Kalki is born; we are looking towards the
ending. Apparently, there are two more parts to this story, wonder what they would
include! Am guessing that there
will be more of Kalki, the hows and whats to be seen.
Overall, it was not at all a bad read, especially, if you are just starting off on mythology. But, the second half of the book, raises some doubts...
