Mythology in an all new Avatar!

Mythology on Indian channels is taking on a whole new avatar. I recently caught these weird versions of Ramayana and Mahabharata, or the other versions based on some of the other characters. I do not even know what to say to the makers.

Siya Ke Ram (Wikipedia)
Siya ke Ram’, firstly has the earliest of women and men wearing designer wear of today! Really? Am not saying that people wore next to nothing, but seriously it could do with a lot more of toning down.

And I cannot believe the most atrocious looking Rakshasas that are on TV, nowadays. They look all 'pretend scary' and fly about in the stupidest of ways. You have got to see it to believe it.

And the worst thing is Ram and Krishna, in both these versions are so fair, that they seem to have been trying on a fairness cream, even before they were born. Even Arjun and Draupadi for that matter!

Sankatmochan Mahabali Hanuman’ firstly seems to be creating a story, all its
own. I mean, come on give Hanuman a break. He was supposed to be the most brilliant of the lot, and though I agree about Hanuman worshipping Ram, I cannot fathom seeing him at Ayodhya and already serving Ram, when he was barely a child.

Sankatmochan Mahabali Hanuman - Wikipedia
This one has Rakshasas wearing bizarre designs on their faces. Even makes Ravan seem a dud, at times. Ravan was a great scholar and a very knowledgeable person. It is quite well known all the evil stuff he might have got up to, but it is necessary to remember what a wonderful country, Lanka was under him and how well, it was prospering.

Also, Ravan’s meeting with Manthra has to the most ridiculous piece if writing, I have even seen.

Suryaputra Karn’ is another ridiculous version. It makes the straightened hair version of Duryodhan seem less ridiculous. They actually have created a whole new brother to Karn and also created a whole new hate story between Karn and his mother, Radha. And the whole Mahabharat has been ruined and worse it keeps getting.

Basically, most of these shows are just like soap operas, which we are still subject to on television, nowadays. Sigh!
